An inspirational fundraising event across Kenya

An awesome effort

We are always looking for the opportunity for people to take on challenging events to raise money for the school. Sometimes people take on challenges that go way above and beyond, and that was the case with one of our Kenyan trustees and school director, Ben Clay.

Ben decided to cycle an incredible 405 kilometres from the vast wilderness of Tsavo West National Park all the way to the north coast of Kenya at Watamu in five gruelling days. Although the route eventually descended towards the Indian Ocean coast, the riders still faced days of relentless rolling hills, rough rural roads and intense heat. The challenge involved thousands of metres of cumulative climbing across some of Kenya’s most remote and demanding terrain. It was a sweaty, exhausting and truly epic challenge, finally ending in the beautiful coastal town of Watamu known for its white beaches, coral reefs and marine parks.

Joined by Helen and Andrew Jackson, the team crossed some of Kenya’s most demanding terrain, travelling through the Tsavo region also meant cycling through landscapes famous for their wildlife, including elephants, giraffes, zebras and baboons, adding to the sense of adventure throughout the challenge. Driven by a huge sense of purpose, to provide a better future for the children at Bombolulu Educational Centre, the riders finished tired but proud to have raised over £20,000 – enough to provide food and clean water for the children at the school for a whole year.

That contribution has already allowed a new water borehole to be drilled at the school, saving around £1,000 each year in water costs.
